How to draft around byes
One rule covers most of it: never let your two best players at the same position share a bye. A shared bye between a starter and a bench piece is coverable from waivers; your RB1 and RB2 resting together is a week you punt. The NFL rankings show every player’s bye in its own column, and the draft room carries it onto the live board so you can see the clash before you make the pick.
Common questions
- What is a bye week?
- Every NFL team sits out one week of the regular season between Weeks 5 and 14. That week its players score nothing in fantasy — a starter on bye is an automatic zero unless you bench them.
- Why do bye weeks matter in a fantasy draft?
- Stacking too many starters on the same bye turns one calendar week into a forfeit. You don’t need to avoid overlaps entirely — one shared bye between two bench-coverable players is fine — but drafting your RB1, WR1 and QB all with the same week off is a self-inflicted loss.
- Do bye weeks matter for kickers and defenses?
- Less than people think. Most managers stream kickers and D/ST from waivers during their bye anyway, so a good kicker with an awkward bye still beats a mediocre one with a convenient bye.
- Can bye weeks change during the season?
- Rarely, but rescheduled games have moved them before. This grid is derived from the live schedule and refreshes with the daily sync, so it reflects the season as it actually stands.
